The Common Board for Global Ministries today commissioned seven persons to serve in mission stations across Latin America, East Asia and Southern Africa.
The new missionaries will represent the combined mission boards of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and the United Church of Christ. “One way we participate in the ‘Healing of the Nations’ is through the presence of missionaries who serve as a result of invitations by our overseas partners,” said the Rev. David Vargas, president, Division of Overseas Ministries and co-executive of Global Ministries. Read more…

In the middle of August Advance Conference takes place to provide young adults ages 19-29 a refuge to grow in their faith and fellowship. This year was no different, with topics pushing us to “Seek God” within aspects of our daily life. We learned about what it truly means to live with God and what that means for us and our community. We were fortunate to learn all while being surrounded by our own loving community.
Each year three camp participants are elected to be the next officers; this year’s officers are Jon Bernard, Brittany Stricklen, and Christina Weldy. We are very excited for the upcoming year and have already begun planning this year’s retreats and conference. Read more…
As some of you might know, we have an exciting mission trip opportunity coming up at Hiram Farm Sept. 18-20. For those of you that don’t know Advance Conference has partnered with Hiram Farm, which is a community project born out of the desire to provide inspiration and meaningful work for the individual growth of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders. Hiram Farm was just started up in June and could use our help on a variety of projects to help develop the farm. For those of you interested in taking part in the mission trip, could you please contact Nate Dicken at n.dicken@yahoo.com or Clint Messner at camessner@gmail.com to let us know so that we can determine how many people are coming and what type of food arrangements we need. The power of the Advance ministry never ceases to amaze me! The spirituality of the April Spring Retreat, “Dance with God,” was amazing and inspiring. During this retreat we dis-cussed how the different rhythms and songs we encounter in our lives distract us. We were led by Rev. Jay Gamelin, a tal-ented musician and speaker, who infused new life in our praise with some desperately-needed new songs. We celebrated in song and devotion as we explored how to better listen for the rhythm of God and how to live in harmony with it; to be led in the great dance which is, was, and always will be. On April 24th, Advance attendees gathered again in music and in God?s presence for the Annual Advance Fundraising Concert. The display of talent people put forth to support the Advance Minis-try was truly an amazing representation of God?s gifts!

Dance with God
Camp Christian
April 3-5, 2009
A lot of different rhythms and songs distract us: the pulse of work, the static of personal conflict, the deep bass drone of dread. How do we listen for the rhythm of God? How can our lives be a celebration, a dance which glorifies the Lord? Are we ready to let God lead? Join us as we learn to find the melody, to be the harmonies, and to join in the dance which is, was, and always will be.
We ask that anyone who is musically inclined bring their instrument of choice. Our speaker, Jay, is a musician as well as a pastor and will be teaching us some fresh music. Read more…

Advance winter retreat! I cannot think of a more wonderful way to launch into the New Year. It was a fantastic, thought provoking, and spiritual weekend. With both new and familiar faces gathering together in the spirit of god it was truly another successful retreat that touched the hearts and minds of those in attendance. Looking ahead to the months to come, the Advance officers are hard at work planning the spring retreat which will be themed “Dance in God” and held on April 3-5 at Camp Christian. Indeed it promises to be a spiritually fulfilling Advance gathering. Also, be sure to mark your calendar for April 24, when the annual Advance fundraising concert will be held. Come out to hear and see the musical gifts of God being displayed and support the Advance ministries. It is sure to be invigorating and entertaining event. May peace be with you in this New Year.
